FAQs

WHY CHOOSE THE LASER DOCTOR?

We are a qualified, certified, and licensed practice with over a decades-worth of experience in the medical field. In short, you can be sure that you’ll get a professional, informed, and reliable service with us every time.

what do i do before my appointment?

Before any appointments with The Laser Doctor, we recommend avoiding sun exposure and removing any fake tan as this may affect your overall results, as our laser will be attracted to the pigment recently produced in the skin, which can affect the overall treatment result.

For carbon facial treatments, please arrive at your appointment with clean skin and no makeup.

For laser tattoo removal, ensure that you are wearing comfortable clothing and are free of moisturizer and sunscreen. Please also ensure that you don’t take medications, such as ibuprofen or aspirin, prior to your appointment, as it can cause excessive bruising. However, you are able to apply an over-the-counter topical numbing cream one hour prior to your appointment. We recommend Emla 1%, available at pharmacies.

what do i do after my LASER appointment?

You’ll notice that after undergoing laser removal, the treated area will turn white (frost) for up to approximately 20 minutes, due to the reaction between the ink and the TRI-BEAM™ pulses. Other post-treatment symptoms may consist of; reddening, scabbing, bruising, swelling, and blistering, however following our aftercare instructions will reduce the chances of these occurring.

To ensure that you reap the ultimate benefits for your skin, after your carbon facial treatment we recommend:

  • Do not take a hot shower for 24-48 hours

  • Wear SPF30+ sunscreen daily (this is standard practice for your skincare regime but is particularly important to keep on top of post-treatment)

  • Avoid direct sunlight for 24 hours

  • Refrain from using skincare that has active ingredients in it, such as AHAs and BHAs, retinol/retinoic acids (Vitamin A), and Vitamin C

  • Use a hydrating, humectant-based moisturiser during the day and an emollient-rich cream before bed to thoroughly nourish and comfort your skin, and

  • Avoid over-cleansing your skin - we recommend using an oil or cream-based cleanser to remove makeup and hydrate, and a gentle, non-perturbing cleanser to offer a pristine cleanse.

After seeing us for a tattoo removal service, we suggest to:

  • Not take hot showers for 24-48 hours

  • Keep the dressing over your tattoo to keep the area clean and dry

  • Avoid direct sunlight for 24 hours, and

  • Apply Bepanthen cream daily to soothe the skin and encourage the healing process.

Healing time will vary from person to person, depending on the intensity and colour of the ink as well as how your skin responds to the laser. We recommend a minimum of 6 weeks between laser tattoo removal sessions to ensure the skin has healed and there has been adequate time for fading to occur.

How DO LASERS WORK?

Our TRI-BEAM™ laser emits short light pulses that shatter ink pigment into fine particles, which are then absorbed by your immune system and removed naturally through your lymphatic system.

CAN ALL COLOURS BE REMOVED?

Black and red pigments take the best to the laser, followed by blues and greens, with yellows more challenging to remove. White ink, however, is one that cannot be removed; in fact, the pigment can actually darken when exposed to light.

Certain ink colours, particularly those that are vibrant, may also darken after being treated with the laser before they lighten.

DO OTHER TATTOO REMOVAL METHODS WORK?

To put it simply, the most efficient way to remove tattoos is through employing laser treatment. Topical creams only target the surface of the skin, where ink pigments reside too deep to be impacted.

Similarly, IPL is used to remove hair follicles that have appeared through the surface of the skin. The light used in this method is broad spectrum and is designed to target hair specifically, meaning that it would be ineffective in safely removing tattoo pigment.

Injectable removal is known to cause ongoing harm to the skin, and often leaves clients with permanent damage that ends up being more difficult to treat than opting for laser removal from the outset.

IS IT PAINFUL?

The feeling of the laser pulses may mimic the sensation of being flicked on the skin by an elastic band, however it’s a quick procedure and you’re able to apply numbing cream an hour prior. At The Laser Doctor, our goal is to make the experience for you as comfortable as possible while still achieving optimal results.

WHAT WILL MY TATTOO LOOK LIKE WHEN IT’S FADING?

After your initial treatment, your tattoo may appear darker or bruised, however after the healing has completed (after about 6 weeks) the ink will fade. Shading will subside before thicker lines and deeper ink deposits; multiple treatments will allow the ink to fade, however you can expect it to do so in this way, which can leave the tattoo area looking patchy during the process.

The latter stages of your tattoo removal will leave the treated area looking like a light shadow of what was once there.

HOW MUCH DOES LASER TATTOO REMOVAL COST?

Please see our pricing guide for a breakdown of all treatment costs and packages available.

are injectable treatments for everyone?

While cosmetic injectables are generally suitable for most individuals, they are not appropriate for everyone. Those who should refrain from cosmetic injectables include individuals with known allergies to the components of wrinkle relaxers or dermal fillers, those with active skin infections, or those with certain medical conditions, such as autoimmune or neurological disorders. Furthermore, pregnant or breastfeeding individuals and those under the age of 18 are typically advised to defer these treatments. It is crucial to consult with a cosmetic practitioner to assess your suitability for cosmetic injectables, taking into account your medical history and current health condition.

Please inform your practitioner if you:

- Have had or will have a vaccination within 2 weeks of your treatment

- Have undergone or will undergo dental procedures within 2 weeks of your treatment

- Have received or plan to receive cosmetic tattooing in the treatment areas within 2 weeks

- Are taking antibiotics or other medications

HOW MANY CARBON FACIAL TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Our signature carbon facial treatment works to target a variety of skin concerns, so the number of required sessions will vary depending on what you’re wanting to treat. Book in for an initial consultation with Dr. Alizadeh to discuss your personalised treatment plan.

HOW MANY SESSIONS OF LASER TATTOO REMOVAL WILL I NEED?

There are several factors that affect how many sessions of laser tattoo removal you will need, such as tattoo technique, ink depth and placement, your skin type, and your own individual immune system.

For cosmetic brow tattoo removal, we estimate that the average patient will need from two to five appointments in order to completely remove the tattoo.

If you’re looking for a body tattoo removal, the variety of types of tattoos are infinite so it’s best to book an initial consultation with Dr. Alizadeh to determine how many treatments you will need.

IS THERE A RISK OF SCARRING?

Our TRI-BEAM Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser is designed to leave no scarring, but rather improve the quality of the skin barrier. In saying this, the risk of scarring can remain and is most successfully prevented by following the correct pre and post-treatment care instructions.
